Character

Name: Anthony J. Crowley (just Crowley among angels and demons, formerly Crawly until he decided it sounded too squirmy)
Canon: Good Omens (Amazon Prime miniseries)
Canon point: Final dinner at the Ritz (aka post-series)
Age: Older than the Earth (which, in-'verse, is around 6000 years old), and old enough to have helped build and align the stars. Late 40s, early 50s in appearance.

History: wiki for laziness and because recapping even 30 minutes of one hour-long episode turned into a small essay, if I try and do the whole thing this app will never get done

Personality: * "I only ever asked questions." - Crowley asks the hard questions, and he asks them stubbornly. Unless self-preservation makes it more prudent to keep silent, he's the first one to take a look at the cosmic setup of his world and wonder why it was just that easy to access a forbidden Tree of Knowledge, or why the supposed good guys are drowning everyone, even children, in a giant Biblical flood.

This is also the reason that, at least where Aziraphale is concerned, he is a rather effective tempter. He's able to prod at the things he knows will bother his friend, or get him to ask his own questions, forcing him to confront a situation the angel would sooner avoid.

* "...something that no other demon has: an imagination." - Crowley can see the bigger picture. He's been on Earth since it began, and was responsible for one of the first uses of free will, so he appreciates human invention and progress better than anyone, not to mention cleverness and the ability to think on one's feet.

He's also aware of how humans are capable of more awfulness than any demon can come up with. Rather than forcing corruption or doubt in individuals, Crowley will enact elaborate schemes to take down a telephone system, or to remake a highway in the shape of a demon sigil. He collects demonic energy subtly, or gives humans the opportunity to do wrong to each other out of anger or frustration, making the ultimate decision their own. This sense of imagination also allows him control over his reality-warping powers it's implied that no other demon has, surviving a wall of fire through sheer force of will.

* "You know what to do. Do it with style." - Crowley has a love of flash and swagger. He's fond of James Bond, his vintage Bentley, and wildly expensive gadgets like watches that can tell the time in a dozen places. He seems to change his hair and outfit once a decade at least. His car always playing the band Queen started as a joke in Good Omens the book about how, back in the early 90s, Queen was rather inescapable. But it'd be easy to mark Crowley as a Queen fan in the 2010s, too, given how they've become synonymous with performative self-expression.

Crowley's flair for the dramatic shows up in more private and emotional senses too. He tries to seem cool as a cucumber, with a plan and a one-liner for everything, but this masks a lot of (often justified) anxiety, and sometimes leaves him looking a tad ridiculous. He's weepy and expressive when drunk, prone to romantic rescues, and at one point delivers a classical monologue to God asking Her to spare humanity.

* "I never asked to be a demon." - Crowley never intended to Fall from Heaven, or even make a grand statement in rebelling; he got in with the wrong crowd, and it happened before he'd realized. He'll be first to play up his role as a card-carrying Bad Guy, threatening his houseplants into "growing better" by culling the one that dared to develop leaf spots. He'll deflect or even get visibly angry at being called 'nice' or 'kind.' But his Fallen status is also his go-to subject in times of despair, something he muses on with bitterness.
Because Crowley is a good person, deep down, despite all protests. He's not a fan of violence, especially harming children, and is often horrified by the human atrocities he takes credit for. He doesn't fit in with other demons, who want nothing to do with Earth and seem to have dedicated themselves to both physical and emotional ugliness. And unlike Aziraphale, he doesn't seem bothered by his status as an outcast among "his side". He could blend into their aesthetic or attitudes, but doesn't really make an effort to do so, even as a lie; he by no means sees himself as still an angel, but he recognizes that he's something set apart.

* "Wherever you are, I'll come to you." - But the best of him shines in his loyalty to Aziraphale. Crowley understands and points out, long before Aziraphale does, that they've made their own side separate from Heaven or Hell. He's protective, looking out for his friend even when they're fighting, and is always looking ahead to the next danger that comes from their relationship. And while he threatens at least three times during Armageddon to leave the Earth behind, he pointedly doesn't, because he can't bear to do so by himself. It's only when he thinks Aziraphale is gone forever that he gives up, and he rallies at the chance to help him again even one more time.

This is to say that, while Crowley's loyalty doesn't come easily, it's unwavering when you have it. He chooses who he cares about and what he believes in, and he holds to those things without hesitation.

Always Keep In Mind: It's not that Crowley isn't good at being a demon. He's good at being a very classical version of one, someone who gives humans the opportunity for evil and knows they'll more than likely rise to the occasion. He knows how to manipulate and persuade, and he feels that there are times that violence and amoral decisions are necessary to survive, or prevent broader consequences.

But while he's willing to play the bad guy in his and Aziraphale's double act, he doesn't enjoy being the one to do active harm. When he's left to his own devices, he'd rather leave the world alone and enjoy his time in it. And it's telling that when we see him at his happiest and most confident, it's playacting James Bond rather than a Bond villain. Crowley has made deliberate decisions to be his own person, separate from very strict and binary roles, and that person is someone who knows life isn't fair - but wants it to be.

Questions:

What do you want to study at Diatu Magicademy?
M'not a fan of books, to be honest, I'm not really the studious type. But as long as I'm here, can't see the harm in picking up a few new tricks, or new ways to do the old ones. Might be useful, back home, just in case they realize they left the 'miracles' tap running and decide to leave us dry.

And you know what's really interesting, are a lot of humans - perfectly ordinary, non-Antichristy humans -running around with pseudo-miracles on hand. Seeing what they'll do. So I'm partly here for the people-watching, I suppose.

If you knew you could go back to the moment you left, would you leave immediately or continue your studies for a while?
Er, yeah, don't see why not. Didn't imagine Not-Quite-Hogwarts as my first holiday in a long while, but s'interesting, a whole world different from mine. Can't help but be curious about how it all works here. And my friend's here, for however long. No reason to keep him bored without me.

If your enemy was at Diatu Magicademy, how would you react?
Ngk-! Don't start putting that out there, if there's anyone whose reach between worlds we don't know about I'd say Satan's is a fair bet. If he turned up, best we could hope for is someone who can warp enough reality to warp him away from here, and I'll wager you don't have many of those handy. Best you can do is run if there's somewhere to go. Or hope for the best, expect the worst, go down fighting.

Now if we're talking literal lesser evils, those can be outsmarted. Have done, would again, verysatisfying. Especially if they were as cut off from Home Office as we are, no power to speak of. I'm not beyond a little gloating. That sounds like a fine use of a holiday.

When is it acceptable to resolve a dispute by force?
Ngh, I could go another thousand years without thinking about this question again. No offense. Had a rough week recently.
I don't like getting people hurt, 'specially not when they haven't done anything to deserve being in the line of fire. Even when I was on the job, takes all the fun out of it to do that kind of damage. Especially directly. But sometimes you've got to. Sometimes there's just you, and them, and what they'll do to you or someone you care about if you don't stop them. I'd rather be the one who runs faster or thinks quicker, I try to be. But it doesn't always work out that way.

S'not like I've got all the answers for that either, though. Sometimes the wrong thing looks like the right one, or the other way 'round. Sometimes you think you've got no choice, but the choice was someone else's anyhow. All you can do is keep moving, and keep questioning.

What should the supreme goal of any wizard be?
Oh for - what, all of you? You realize if anyone has a tidy answer for these big ones, they're probably the kind of twisted bastard you need to watch out for, right? S'not my department to tell everyone what to do with their lives. You've got free will, which is a blessed gift, and you've got at least some power. Find something you like. Don't be mindless, don't be cruel, don't be boring. There's enough weird in the world that if something important needs doing, someone will step up. Probably.

Special Considerations

Your Special Something: Item of Power, for the demon that always wants the newest and shiniest toys.

Rank Your House Choice: 1. Ka, because he'd find the demon-summoning hilarious, he'd get to be wholly on the same 'side' as Aziraphale for once, and he's already shown some proficiency with time magic (he stops time completely at least twice in-series). He's also got more than a little experience of being part of the forbidden 'out' group, so plenty of interesting feelings there.

2. Valhudor, because Crowley loves style and flash, has Queen playing wherever he goes (but also has a penchant for a pretty wide variety of music, including classical and The Velvet Underground that we see), and would probably appreciate their general philosophy of things.

3. Eiather, because God has an evil sense of humor, and nothing's going to awaken the ol' issues faster than having to kneel in supplication to a set of new gods that may or may not exist. Granted, the penchant for rule-breaking may mean he likes his housemates better than expected.

Powers: Crowley's body doesn't age. He doesn't need food, drink, or sleep (although he's enjoyed all three), and he has no biological sex unless he makes an effort to manifest one. Death means the loss of his body, but his soul would return to Hell, and he could return to Earth once he was issued a new one. He has wings, which he can manifest how he wants (in his case, like the traditional angelic kind but black), and he can transform into a large black and red serpent. The only thing that can destroy him completely is holy water, which is fatal to his body and soul on impact.

Angelic and demonic powers in Good Omens kind of break the game. And the universe. Crowley warps reality around him, both consciously and to fit his expectations. He drives at 90 miles per hour in central London because traffic and pedestrians rearrange themselves to fit his behavior. Restaurants miraculously have reservations available when he chooses. He can manifest things or make people disappear. He stops time at least twice, can communicate with animals (or at least rats, as seen in a deleted scene), can hold himself and a burning car together with his mind by sheer force of will, and can possess bodies. And he's not even an especially powerful demon, so while he'll probably keep whatever physical stuff the game's Aziraphale has kept, I don't see him getting power regains anytime soon, probably.

Items: - Crowley always wears black sunglasses, to hide his snakelike eyes from humans. If he's allowed to have them on arrival, he'd still welcome a few dozen backup pairs just in case.

- Crowley's prized possession is a vintage Bentley he bought brand new in the 1920s, and that he's driven ever since. Any tapes or CDs he keeps inside slowly transform into a Best of Queen album after a fortnight. No clue how practical or useful it would be to him in this world, but it's basically his TARDIS, so he'd be thrilled to have it back.

Anything Else: I think I've covered it all, but if there are any questions or anything unclear, feel free to ask!
